Before the crown · before the law · before men named what they once saw
The Era of Return
The old bond waits in silent place,
until the world must face its weight.
The Elder Mark
A fallen general leads the remains of a kingdom through a wood that keeps what it takes.
A quiet man at his shoulder counts everything, and is counted in turn.
And beneath the oldest city in the east, something that has waited five eras
is about to be found.

The Collapse of the New World
The kingdom of Nathaniä has stopped deserving its army. General Alastair flees east
with everything a collapsing world could not keep: veterans, debtors, women with
children under cloaks too thin for the night. His road ends at a city that appears on no
living map. Behind him rides Patrick: assessor, counter, keeper of a private ledger.
The city will read them all.

holder has dared, and finds that the compact beneath the city has been waiting
for someone to read it correctly.

Illumination
One lamp goes out on a stair where none has failed in nine hundred years.
Three armies converge on a place that no one owns. And everything old,
older than the claimant houses, older than the Church, older than the
counting of eras at all, begins to come home.

From the oldest liturgies
“Beneath the garden two will wait:
one ends all doubt, one names your fate;
a third but watches, soon and late.
Who answers neither holds the gate.”
